Immaculate Heart College, Borokiri, was established in the early sixties by the Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt as a Girls Secondary Commercial School on its temporary site at Harbour Road with Rev Sr. Maria De Lourdes as the Pioneer Principal. Rev. Sr. Theresa Ozonma (Nee Okafor) and Rev. Sr. Regis Ojiegbe became Principals of the school at different times before the civil war. The school moved to its permanent site, No. 20 Nembe Street, Borikiri, Port Harcourt before the out-break of the civil war in 1967.
Shortly after the civil war, the Government of Rivers State took over the school along with other Mission schools and renamed it Government Secondary School (GSS) Borikiri. It was exclusively for boys. It operated in this capacity for 38 years (1970-2008).
In the last quarter of 2008, as a result of strong clamour for the return of Mission schools to their rightful owners, Immaculate Heart College, Borikiri became one of the thirteen secondary schools returned to the Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt. This time the Diocese made it a co-educational Institution. Same year, admissions were made into both Junior and Senior Secondary classes. Chief Sir Anthony Worgu, became the pioneer Principal in this third stage of the school’s existence.
On the 18th of August, 2009, Rev. Sr. Felicia Orih of the Handmaid of the Holy Child Jesus (HMHCJ) Congregation took over the mantle of leadership from Sir Anthony Worgu, and was the Principal till August, 2011 when she was transferred out of the school by her Congregation.
On the 19th of September, 2011, Lady Florence C. Nwosu, was posted to the school as acting principal and as at the time of writing this history the incumbent Principal of the College.
